28 Gibson FON 8964 TB3 Fat Rim Conversion completed through a couple of people. This banjo belong to Charlie Cushman whom I purchased it from and it was still in its all original archtop condition. Then I got started on it as it was a screaming powerful banjo. Just loud and powerful but too bright for my taste because of the archtop. First let me say, I still have the factory tenor neck diamonds and squares and you can have that with the purchase.
I had a style 3 ebony fretboard put on an Arthur Hatfield mahogany neck. I had the fat rim turned down by Steve Huber to receive a Jerry Sloan no hole tone ring. I had the rim turned on the other side to convert from 2 piece to 1 piece flange. I still have the 2 piece flange if you would like that as well. All parts are original and as I said I still have the original neck. I sold the archtop tone ring to Steve Huber. The neck that was built by Arthur is mahogany. The tuners are Rikard's Cyclones and have boxwood buttons. Back of the reso is a little scratched up but to be expected. Wherever this banjo came from had its guts played out which has added to its power and projection. WoW!!! Why am I selling? Well I have my eye on another one. You know how banjo players are. We are all looking for the elusive unmatched prewar tone. Really I just like mahogany and getting different banjos. Always selling swapping and converting.
I do not know exactly what the cost on shipping is but I trust one girl her locally who ships all the banjos I have sold over the years. She works for UPS store and does it right. I will have to get that to you once sell is complete. If you buy it, I hate to be cliché-ish but you will not and I mean NOT disappointed. Probably the most powerful banjo I have ever owned.
Please let me know if you have any questions at all.
Be happy to send you sound clips.
Thanks
D
