This raw-brass beauty is a modern take on the old Tensionator adjustable finger-style tailpiece. For the life of me I cannot remember who I purchased this from, but I do remember that he was the maker. There is some very fine machine work that went into producing this tailpiece, so to that individual who fashioned this part, I salute your extraordinary skills in metal working!
From tip to tip, each finger measures about 2-1/2 inches long, however, from the pivot point to the tip of the finger the measurement is just 2-inches long. The width of the tailpiece from the outside of the 1st-string finger to the outside of the 5th-string finger is 1-3/4 inches wide. So you see, this is not an especially large tailpiece when compared to true Tensionator-style tailpieces. That said, it functions great. I had this mounted on a Deering Artisan open-back banjo for a couple of years and it worked especially well with that set-up. I removed it from that banjo as I'm getting ready to sell that instrument here in the BHO classifieds, and I thought better to sell the tailpiece separately.
Oh, almost forgot, there's an inscription on the inside surface of the mounting plate that faces the tension hoop: "BTL5 0004 USA" So I can only assume that 'BTL5' is the model number, '0004' is the forth tailpiece made of this style(?), and 'USA' for obvious reasons.
When examining the tailpiece, it is for all intents and purposes in mint condition. I cannot find a single flaw on it. The only reason I've listed it as it being in 'Excellent Condition' is because it was in actual use on a banjo for a number of years.
