This is what's referred to as the "holy grail" of Gibson banjos. An original prewar 5-string flathead. This RB-3 F.O.N. 1288-1 was made in 1936 and shipped to H. Polliack and Co. in South Africa May 28, 1937. The banjo was brought back to the USA by Jim Mills in 2010. The banjo earned the nickname "The Boer Hog" referring to the Boer people of S.A. and of course being a mahogany banjo. At some point in South Africa it had been painted with white paint and was refinished by Frank Neat after arriving in the U.S. The frets were well worn and replaced by Frank as well. A few of the holes in the tone ring were enlarged as is not uncommonly seen with prewar flatheads. The metal is in fantastic condition. A set of lights (also common) was installed at Gibson before leaving and a hole was drilled in the rim for the electrical wire. The light assembly is still with it in the original case. This banjo is well known in the Gibson Prewar flathead community as one of the best sounding banjos out there. This banjo will not be shipped. We can arrange a "meeting" time and place or delivery. This banjo is priced at $79,999 **TRADES CONSIDERED**
