Easy-playing banjo with new setup by John Boulding. John repaired a broken headstock when the banjo was knocked over recently. He did an excellent job, plus smoothed out the action and did a general cleanup.
In brief, these are specs:
5-string Gibson “Mastertone” style
Curly maple neck, built by Frank Neat
RB-3 Granada-style Wreath Pattern inlays on neck with no inlay between 12-17 frets
Cox Rim, no serial number; Early 30’s style Gibson label
Custom curly maple resonator, will have additional hole in wall of resonator where lug was moved to mount on new rim
Gibson tone ring and Gibson hardware (flange/prewar style presto tailpiece, hooks and nuts)
I bought it used from a long-time musician in our area about 10 years ago, and these are the specs he gave me.
After I had it for a while, I also had a setup done by Robin Smith who tried out a bunch of bridges and in the end left the Scorpion bridge that it came to me with in place.
It's a lovely instrument but it's just sitting in its case, it needs to be played. Thanks for looking.
