When I saw three Adam Krefman banjos up for sale on the Old town School music store website, I fell in love with the handmade beauty of the instruments, the innovation of the design and the thoughtful sourcing of the materials. I purchased two of the three on 3/7/22. I am keeping one and selling one as I continue to thin my collection. Below is the description from the OTS website. “Lovingly handcrafted by Oak Park, IL-based luthier Adam Krefman from 11/21 to 2/22, this visually compelling and eminently playable 10 3/4" rim, 26 3/16" scale open back banjo boasts the resonant, saturated response of figured White Oak for its rim and neck, sustainably sourced from felled Chicago area populations.
Low, even action across a striking birdseye Sugar Maple (hard maple) fingerboard with a 1 1/4" nut offers a silky hardwood response, similar in feel to ebonv or rosewood.
With a custom cast bronze tension hoop designed by the builder and cast in Broadview, IL and a genuine goat skin head responsibly prepared by JeffMenzies in Jamaica, this inspired instrument is more than ready for any live or studio session”
