This is a nice player with great tone and surprising volume--a beautiful century-plus-old instrument with a lot of heritage. I’ve owned it since 2005 but am downsizing and need to let this one go.
Very good condition. Serial number 68816, late nineteenth century. Thin birds-eye maple metal clad rim, 10-1/2’ pot, 28 brackets, 5 replaced nuts. Cherry neck with lovely carved heel, still nice and straight, a few small dings as you would expect. 22-fret ebony fingerboard with small diamond inlays, railroad spike at 7th fret, frets in good condition, replaced nut, 1-1/4" nut width, 26-1/2" scale. Ebony headstock overlay with beautiful pearl inlays and multicolored underlay, five mechanical friction tuners that function well. The usual Stewart heel crack, well-repaired and hardly visible, Kuenstler patent turnbuckle neck adjuster, includes small ebony wedges, a very solid neck to pot attachment. White "S. S. Stewart, Phil'a, PA" and "Special Thoroughbred" badges inside pot are intact; "Special Thoroughbred" sticker in pot is mostly intact. 2019 John Balch 4 Star skin head. Nylgut Classical medium strings since I’ve had it (2005). Like new Superior Banjo case (really—never taken out of the house), extra bridges, slightly used additional Renaissance head previously on this banjo, banjo wrench key that fits included.
$1100 including case and extras described above.
