Here's a Whyte Laydie No. 2 in excellent condition. Manufactured by A.C. Fairbanks Company about 1907, this well-preserved instrument shows very little wear—a great example of a classic American banjo.

• Natural finish
• Maple rim and 2-piece maple neck
• Imitation tortoise-shell binding inside rim
• Ebony fretboard, bound in ivoroid
• Mother-of-pearl diamond, leaf, and star inlays on neck
• Gryphon, leaf, and star inlays on peghead
• 11" rim; 22 frets; 28 brackets
• No Knot tailpiece (“patented November 19, 1901”)
• Newer armrest and geared tuners
• Includes plush-lined hardshell case
• Similar instruments are offered at Elderly Instruments and Reverb for $3750.

This instrument belonged to my late brother-in-law, Jonathan Pickow, who was a professional old-timey musician.

I am new to Banjo Hangout, but Jon told me that this was the best place to find a good instrument. I am an author/compiler of music books (and not a banjo player myself), but I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have about this instrument as best I can. Just email me through this ad.
