Beautiful Charles Waldman Cello Banjo 109 made by Chuck out of local materials from his area! Douglas Fir neck and rim(with integral tone ring), Walnut peghead, fingerboard, rim cap,and the tailpiece is Madrone if I remember correctly.
Interesting thing about this banjo is his earlier Cello’s had a 13 inch rim. This one is 12 inches with the integral tone ring typical of his Cello Banjos. It came with really thick wound(nickel?) over nylon strings. It was super bassy and truly had the Cello Banjo tone. I decided to put Nylgut reds on it and play it as a regular 12 inch open back.
It fits the bill wonderfully! Super warm yet punchy tone. If you have heard about Chucks banjos you know they have a reputation for fantastic tone. Here’s your chance to get a rare instrument from a maker who does not have a huge output.
Neck is carbon fiber reinforced.
1 3/8 Nut.
Scale length is 25 3/4
Rim depth 3 1/4. (1/4 inch thick)
Wire armrest I added.
I consider it excellent and not mint because of very minor indentations on wood tailpiece from me standing it on the floor. Besides that it’s mint. I bought it from Gryphon Strings about 1 1/2 years ago for 1600. Just haven’t been playing as much and need the cash for other ventures.
