My favorite banjo of all time is up for sale! It's way over my head. Excellent, very clean original 1930 Gibson Type 2 (Tb2) converted to an Rb2.
Robin Smith built the beautiful tight grained mahogany neck just before he passed away. Rosewood board with immaculate "Hearts& Flowers" pearl inlays. No wear on frets. Bone nut. 5/8" Scorpion bridge (wide spaced /compensated 3rd). Pre EPA head, Set up by Rob with perfect action, "Almost Medium" strings. Has a strong Steve Ryan nickel bell brass 20 hole ring, slip fit. Correct 1/32" gap at neck joint, 2 band tuners. Original Presto tailpiece was punched back under the cover. Metal shows normal age patina.. Flange shows no pull. Nice Original burl walnut resonator with all numbers untouched. Originally built for and known as the "Doc Buring", in Texas.
This is a wonderful Pre-War conversion in every way. It will be sold with the original tenor neck and tuners, in a nice older Gibson hard case.
