Very nice nearly-original 1920 Fairbanks by Vega Senator 5 string. All 5 friction tuners replaced by modern geared tuners. Modern exc condition repro "bump" hard case. Two tiny screw holes in side of fingerboard where a 5th string capo once resided. Smakula "wire" armrest added. No Knot tailpiece probably not original, but old-ish (not cammed). Very nice clean high quality newish skin head (no brand) which is clean and attractive. 5th string pip area shows sign of old crack (repaired OK) and replacement of pip. Nut and frets appear original. Little fret wear. Some finger wear in fingerboard on 1st two strings and 2nd and 3rd frets, so it has definitely been played, but cared for. No visible cracks or repaired cracks anywhere other than right behind 5th string pip. Normal dings/scratches/scrapes, but finish is in quite good condition I think. Right now action at 12th fret is 3 mm with a 5/8" bridge. Skin head is a bit "slack" due to summer humidity. It frets nice and clear all the way to the last fret. Bought this a few years ago from Shop the Folk. Added Smakula armrest. You want an old time banjo with PLUNK, this is it. No tone ring other than skirt-over-bead. 10 7/8" head. 26" scale. Please note this model has a mid-weight weight tension hoop that is NOT NOTCHED. It has a lip machined on top, like a half-groove. Fits snugly in case. A real pleasure to play. Selling because it has been replaced by a 1912 Whyte Laydie No. 7 -- you understand.
