Nice open back mahogany banjo. The neck and pot were purchased separately on Ebay and conjoined to produce a "frankenstein". Origin is not known, but my guess is vintage 1970's Japanese. The banjo is all set up and ready to play and sounds good in multiple playing styles. You can listen to this banjo being played in the clawhammer style be clicking on the link below.
The pot has all original parts except for a new Remo head and 5/8" bridge. It has a mastertone style aluminum tone ring which was characteristic on some of the early Japanese made "masterclones". The original finish was stripped off and a rim cap was added with white binding then refinished.
The neck is straight and the frets show no wear. It notes true up and down the neck with no string buzzes. The scale is the standard 26 1/4". The string action is 3 mm above the 12th fret. Peghead tuners are original. I replaced the original friction style 5th peg with a new geared 5th tuner. The peghead was recut and a silver charm motif added. The neck has the original finish removed and then finished to match the pot.
The banjo weighs in a 5.5 lbs. There is no case, but the banjo will be packed carefully and shipped insured.
