A 1970's gold plated Sho-Bud resonator banjo with a hard shell case that has been restored to good condition. Sho-Bud was a company in Nashville that made pedal steel guitars. The banjos were imported from Japan and fixed with the Sho-Bud label. The banjo plays and sounds very good in multiple playing styles. You can listen to this banjo being played in the bluegrass style by clicking on the link below. The tune is called Sledd Ridin. The pictures and sound will tell the tale. Nice piece of banjo history.

The banjo had some water damage to the peghead and the resonator. There is also some tarnish and pitting to the metal parts. The peghead overlay was missing and the ears had broken off. I fixed this area and added some antique silver charms to replace the original shobud inlays. The original tuners were undamaged. The rest of the neck is in very good condition. Virtually no fret wear and the banjo notes true up and down the neck. String action is 2mm above the 12th fret.

The banjo pot is undamaged and only has some tarnish and pitting on some ofthe metal parts. The original tailpiece is a little wonky and needed some TLC. to make it functional. The resonator and flange can be removed to play the banjo as an open back. (See Pics). The sound is very good either way. I actually think the banjo looks better as an open back. Sound is a little softer, but the volume is the same. It has a new Remo head and a Nechville 3/4" bridge. Strings are medium light steel.

The resonator is functional but pretty scratched up from the water damage. New binding was added to the outside edges. The motif on the back was missing and the whole resonator needed refinishing.

The banjo is a piece history and rare according to info on this site and also on other internet sites.
