Discovered in disrepair this H.A. Weymann and Son banjo is now back and better than ever.
The 2388 serial number is believed to indicate that this is quite an early release from Weymann. Though mostly known for their work from 1900 thru the 1930s they did have a few pre 1900 options made. Any how...
The peg head was damaged but repairable. As well a missing diamond inlay. Unfortunately at some point someone had attempted a neck reset (probably to upgrade to modern metal strings) and shaved material at the heel. Minimal as it were it still can be noticed (pictured) the heel cap seems to be carved celluloid but likely to be bone or ivory if not the former mentioned celluloid.
It has all of its original hardware and tuning pegs but likely has had a head change. Maintains a nice goatskin free of damage. Shows sign of age, play, and storage but has been setup and inspected alongside the repairs.
Set to approximately a 0° neck angle which is period correct for this style of banjo and the strings (nylon) required for it.
It has a 10 7/8 head
26 3/16 scale
Rosewood bridge 9/16ths
Will come in an antique carrying case.
This is a really fun banjo to play. Has a wonderfully bright tone with a clear bass note. The inlays are very attractive and patina akin to an instrument thats seen lots of attention. It has obvious signs of being played but is in wonderful condition for a 122 year old. Your bluegrass buddies will be amazed and your oldtyme friends jealous when you pull this one out.
If the price seems high please throw me an offer i will consider fair ones. Trades welcome: other weymann, Fairbanks and cole, ss stewart, slotted peghead banjo.
