This higher-end Iida 230 (or 233?) masterclone was almost a carbon copy of the Gibson RB250 of its day, and sports a heavy cast 20-hole flathead tone ring with tube and flange construction, multi-ply mahogany rim, dual coordinator rods, double-bound and inlaid mahogany resonator, original bridge, and Gotoh planetary-style tuners, all in a warm and handsome mahogany finish.
This one was a prize for a flatpicking contest at the Red Bluff Old Time Fiddler's campout back in the '70s. (Which I think is a pretty neat provenance.) Luckily, the original owner seems to have mostly kept it tucked away. Play wear is minimal, and the locking case and matching leather strap are all in great condition.
The were some small chips in the peghead where tuners had been replaced that I did my best to fill and blend (see picture), and a crack in the heel was also repaired and has been holding pat for over a month with the coordinator rods and strings up to full tension, at a clean and comfortable set up with the original bridge height unaltered. I feel pretty comfortable hanging my hat on it at this point.
