You don’t see these too often. This banjo is stamped in two places on the inside of the pot . “William Terhune - Maker- New York”. The dowel stick is unmarked. This banjo is identical to another banjo I own made by Hammig. I suspect this banjo was made by Hammig as well and Terhune was likely a reseller.
This is a great playing and sounding Fretless with an 11 1/2” spunover pot. I have it set to a 26” scale. Overall banjo length is 36”. neck length is 19” from nut to pot. Champion style pegs, friction 5th. The nickel plated Fretless “board” is smooth with no real signs of wear. I installed a dyed goat skin a while back. Has a nice deep thumpy tone. The Dobson style star tailpiece came out of my parts bin. I’ve been hanging onto it for a few years until “the right” banjo came around. Looks nice. Nylon strings and 1/2” bridge. All original hooks and nuts too!
