Here is one of the nicest looking and playing original Gibson RB100s I have ever owned or seem!
FON in rim is 2245 2 which makes it a 1949.
Banjo is in immaculate condition throughout….All original except for Gotoh tuners, head, older Presto and bridge and strings.
Frets show almost no wear and fingerboard is in great shape
This would be the second year of Gibson banjo production after WW2.
A cool factor is the original double binding on resonator and the late 40s 100s always seem to have the smaller sunburst on resonator which is pretty to me as well!
For you guys that have played and original prewar 5 string Gibson banjo that is set up correctly you know what kind of sound they can produce…..both tone ring banjos as well as tone hoop banjos………
This one has the original smaller brass hoop making it an arch-top….can easily be swapped out with larger hoop for the flat head look if so desired.
The wood in this banjo’s rim , resonator and neck is at least 72 yrs old but probably even older and I would think it was wood they had before WW2!......just saying!
Think about it……this one is just a few years away from being a prewar 5 string Gibson and it has that SOUND!
The neck has that nice small profile and plays like butter (much like the profiles of the prewar 5 necks.
You will not be disappointed with this one.
