A very fine specimen that has clearly been well taken care of and with all the original parts/hardware including the Jos Rogers Jr head, Grover Presto tailpiece, Grover "two-tab" 2:1 tuners with grained ivoroid buttons, Vega wire armrest, and close fitting "pie-plate" style resonator, as well as the original hardshell case with "Vega" patch inside.

The only thing that is missing is one hook/nut, and I will gladly provide a high quality matching reproduction hook/nut free to replace it.

Overall condition is very good-to-excellent for its age. There is some minor wear, including scuffs to the back of the resonator but the finish and plating are in very good shape overall. A small piece of the corner of one of the headstock wings appears to have broken off and been professionally repaired some time in the past (see photo). Aside from that, the only other item of note would be a pair of very small holes in the tension hoop on the treble side from when a pickguard was attached at one point (see photo).

Historical notes on this banjo:
In addition to all the appropriate Vega stamps and matching serial numbers, it also bears an ivoroid tag on the dowel stick indicating that it was ordered by and made for the Oliver Ditson Co. of Boston/New York. A stamp inside the resonator and on the case indicate it was once owned by one Rusty Parker, or a member of his band "Rusty Parker and his Riverwood Ramblers", apparently from the Toronto area. A faint pencil inscription on the head reads "Exchange Club, 1934".

I'm not really a tenor player, or else I'd be holding on to this one. I've had around a dozen Vega tenors pass through my possession over the last couple of years, and this one has the best tone and has been the most fun to play, hands down. The neck is straight and the action is great (it plays easily with good intonation and no buzzing up and down the neck), and the frets have only minimal wear with no major divots. It has the rich tone you'd expect from a Tubaphone, with lots of cut and bite when played near the bridge but also surprisingly sweet warmth when played closer to the neck.

Please feel free to message with any questions or for a sound sample.
