Here we have a very clean though not quite gig ready Vega Tubaphone plectrum banjo. The biggest issue is the string height. If the buyer wishes to continue using this instrument as a plectrum banjo, he or she will almost certainly want a neck reset done. However, this would make an excellent five string conversion so I’ve opted to leave it be. The 10 15/16” rim is in exceptionally nice shape with only very minor dings in the hardware. The binding started to lift in a small portion of the interior of the treble side of the rim, but otherwise the non hardware rim components are in similarly beautiful shape. The only non original aspects on the rim is the period Waverly Tailpiece and the modern Remo bottom frosted head.
The mahogany 27 3/8” scale neck has possible overspray given that the finish seems thicker and shinier than what’s on the rim, but given the minimal fretware, there’s a good chance it’s also original. There is some flaking on the headstock, but otherwise the finish is very intact. There’s been some binding shrinkage, which is evident on the bass side of the neck at the rim. The Grover tuners are also likely original to the instrument.
It will arrive in its pretty well preserved original hard shell case, which has a replacement handle. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Thanks for looking.
