*I have seen comments regarding the 87/88/89 models being more...desirable? Of better quality? Maybe an intangible. Well, this one was born just 5 days into 1990- making it about as close to the 80's as a Gibson could get! For what it's worth! You decide!"*

1990 Gibson Earl Scruggs Standard 5 string Banjo GREG RICH ERA.
This is a gorgeous and super rare 1990 Gibson Earl Scruggs Standard. This has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.
*I am making a typically hard choice of having to decide which to keep and which to sell! Immediately after receiving this banjo- I came across a "bigger fish to fry," so to speak, and purchased another banjo. I simply cannot keep both! This ESS is actually brighter/ a bit louder than what I'm ending up keeping, with a sweetness up the neck that's hard to let go!*
The Earl Scruggs Standard is definitely the best selling Gibson Banjo model and the most desired Earl Scruggs Standard Banjos are from the Greg Rich era. This is one of those.
The Earl Scruggs Standard is a copy of the banjo that was played by Earl Scruggs. This is a Granada with nickel hardware and an ebony fretboard. The fretboard also has a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern because that is what was on the Scruggs Granada.
This has a 3 ply hard rock maple shell. The neck and resonator are both curly maple. The hardware is nickel and this is all original. This has a Gibson USA one piece flange and a Gibson USA Kulesh Tone Ring. There is w/b/w binding on each side of the neck and resonator. The fretboard and headstock both have the Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern including an extra inlay at the first fret. The truss rod cover has Earl Scruggs Signature and the label on the inside of the pot is actually hand signed by Earl Scruggs- the Blue signature which is a bit more desirable. This has original Gibson D tuners with the Gibson logo imprinted in the tuner buttons. This is a stellar example of a Scruggs Standard that has the more desirable Kulesh Tone Ring and also the rare Gibson D tuners. This also has an original Gibson Hardshell Case that is superbly clean.
This banjo has a tone that no other banjo has and this is why the Scruggs Standard is such a popular Gibson Banjo. If you want the best Gibson Banjo this is the one for you.
As this banjo was very recently (less than 1 month ago) purchased from BANJOWAREHOUSE ATLANTA, you may contact Andy Hohwald regarding the following: "We professionally clean every Banjo that comes through our shop. This has been disassembled and the metal has been buffed and the wood has been waxed. This has a nice glow and basically looks new. There is some checking in the back of the resonator which is common for Rich era Banjos. The checking is so small that it is very hard to see without having the banjo angled in bright light. The fretboard has been cleaned and oiled and that also looks great. The frets look basically perfect, they are essentially untouched. There are spikes at the 7th, 9th and 10th frets. This banjo is absolutely gorgeous and the Gibson case is also super clean. The combination lock has not been set in the case yet and it is gorgeous inside and out.
We also professionally set up all of the banjos that come through the shop. This has a new Remo Frosted head which is set to 90 on a drum dial. This has a Snuffy Smith bridge which is set with correct intonation. The strings are new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and the action is set nicely. This is also fully adjustable. This is a phenomenal banjo that has been professionally cleaned and set up to look, play and sound its best."
