I, Bob Flesher, built this authentic Boucher Minstrel Banjo (circa 1845) in 2008. Now it has come back to me for repairs and to sell. It has a curly
maple neck and a one ply maple rim as per original. All brass hardware is naturally antiqued by 12 years of service. It had 5 surface cracks in the rim as almost all originals do, but the the cracks did not go through to the other side. I stabilized them with epoxy and filled them even to the surface. These cracks will never be a problem again. I installed a new calfskin head and 4 new gut strings and one silk wrapped string on the 4th string as the originals had. Everything is in great shape.
This Boucher reproduction has a great, deep minstrel banjo tone. This banjo has a custom built period wood case which is fleece lined. The case is made for the off-set scroll peaghead. This case is in excellent condition and has an old-time lock. I can't say enough about this case. I wish I knew who built it. I would have him build me one.
