Not many can say they have a banjo living under their bed. Well, that was the case with this Rogue banjo. This was my very first banjo that I had for about a year before I was given my Morgan Monroe Luxmore. I recently decided to pull it out, dust it off, and work on it to sell it.
I installed new headstock tuning pegs, adjusted the neck and coordinator rod, steel-wooled the fingerboard and wiped it down with mineral oil, and installed railroad spikes at frets 7, 9, and 10 so that you don’t have to. I adjusted the tailpiece as well, but that’s about as far as it’s going to go as the plate started to bend some. I also gave the truss rod about a quarter turn as well. It has some dings and scratches here and there, but has very little fret wear. No cracks or splits. Put a new set of Martin Vega medium strings on it.
Scale length is 27 1/2”. Nut width is 1 1/8”. Action is set at about an 1/8” @ the 12th fret with the original 1/2” bridge (one of the legs had split and I repaired it). For the action, the neck was fairly straight, and I adjusted the neck up so that the fingerboard sits almost an 1/8” above the head to achieve good action without adding a shim or recutting the heel.
This banjo comes with its original heavily padded gig bag, a Neotech quick release strap, and a used Keyser capo.
Check out the video below of me playing “Colored Aristocracy”. It has that typical bottlecap sound, but it sounds pretty good to me. This is a good start for someone new to learning banjo.
