Robin Smith’s take on a Gibson RB18. Banjo is all Mahogany, including rim. Gold plated. Radiused fretboard appears to be Rosewood. Spikes at 7-10, and 12. Tension hoop engraved. Brand new gold plated Keith D Tuners on 2nd and 3rd, plus originals. Excellent to mint condition. I’d say it’s a “tone monster” but I hate that expression! Plays sweet...sounds sweeter!! I spoke to Robin before purchasing this (in 2016). He said he’d been making TT’s since 2007. Hard shell case included. In researching the history of this banjo, I came across an older ad for it that contained the following quote:
...“I got this banjo in a trade and was told the original rim and flathead tone ring were replaced with prototype Sullivan floor rim and V-35 tone ring by Bill Sullivan a few years ago.
Whatever was done, this is one of the most powerful, most melodic, cleanest, loudest, and warmest sounding TT I have ever played and in some ways it sounds better than my '39 Gibson style 7 flathead, in my opinion...”
The case has some exterior wear but is structurally sound. One resonator screw is nickel. There is remnants of a bump on the edge of the resonator. It shows up more in person than the picture indicates, but it is pretty minor. The finish isn’t broken. See last picture. Shipping included. Email for specific photos. Sorry, no trades.
