Mr. Middlebrook created innovations at his Lion Banjo Mfg. Co (Thanks Joe), some of them weird. Here's a good example that I bought years ago because it is so unique. I will never get to it's repair, so it must go.
The 'yolk', I believe, is constructed to adjust the action; the fretboard is 'scalloped' (Fender copied this); the rim is hollow and needs some repair that is shown in a picture; and it has a tunneled 5th string. All the simple fret markers are missing, but the neck is in great shape. The head is 11" diameter, the scale is 26 1/2" Most of the bracket/nuts (raw brass) are gone, as is the tailpiece. That water decal inside reads "Southern California Music Co., Broadway Block".
