This banjo started out its life ca.1924 as a 4 string model TB-1, trap door banjo with a 60 hole perforated tone ring. I understand that this was one of Gibson's most popular banjos from a sales standpoint. A similar tone ring was used later in the ball bearing tone ring banjos. The serial number stamped on the inside of the rim is 11002A-17. If anyone can look this up and provide additional information, I would appreciate it and post it. Note: a banjo hangout friend informed me that two similar banjos with similar serial numbers are shown on the website and these banjos are dated ca. 1924. Thanks to this friend for this information.

I decided to have a 5-string neck made for it. I found a severely flood damaged Gibson TB-2 tenor neck from this same period from which the inlays were salvaged and used on this neck. Only a portion of the "THE GIBSON" script on the peghead was able to be salvaged. The salvaged portion is shown in one of the pictures and is included in the banjo case. By the way, the Gibson case is NOT included. This is a modern GIBSON 5 string case which is suited for a big resonator banjo; as such this banjo has a lot of room in it. If you prefer to have this case, add $150 to the price. The neck includes an adjustable truss rod, dual coordinator rod and all the original parts from the Gibson pot including the arm rest. The tailpiece is not original and the geared tuners are modern. Included is a fresh set of strings and a second used head (head is 10.5"). The scale length is about 26 1/4" and the width at the nut is about 1 1/4". The neck is curly maple stained a dark walnut color and finished in lacquer. The fingerboard is ebony and shows very little wear. The presence of the frailing scoop and a resonator makes this a potential crossover instrument able to be used in old time and bluegrass music.

I'm sure I've left off a lot of information that you might want so please contact me and I'll get back to you right away.
