Description

This is a very special, very rare and very cool guitar with a super cool story.

This guitar was designed in 1993 by Larry Flynn who lived about one hour away from the Martin factory in Nazareth PA.  Larry was not a guitar player but due to him living so close to the factory he wanted a souvenir from Martin.  This is a gorgeous maple D62 with some very nice upgrades that has almost never been played or even touched.

Due to this being a special guitar for the purpose of souvenir all of the materials and design methods are the top of the line.  This has a 3 piece back that features the finest birdseye and curly maple wood he could find.  The sides are also a gorgeous highly flamed curly maple.  The top is a Sitka Spruce top.  This has gorgeous tortoise binding on the front and back of the body along with w/b/w binding (white with a black pinstripe).  There is a double herringbone rosette around the sound hole.  The bridge is ebony with some beautiful abalone spiral inlay that really sets it off.  The woods that were used on this would be nearly impossible to find today because all of the best woods have been used at this point.  They could only use the finest maple which was as white as possible so no aging toner would be applied.

This has forward scalloped bracing which is unique to this guitar.  The bridge not only has abalone inlay which was hand laid but each bridge pin has red eye dots.  The neck is mahogany with an ebony fretboard.  The fretboard has black binding on each side.  The fretboard has a diamond and snowflake inlay pattern which is custom and gorgeous and also laid by hand.  The headstock has an ebony face with tortoise binding around the side and white binding on the face.  There is a satin finish on the face of the headstock which helps to set it off.

The tuners are gold with ebony buttons.  The ebony button tuners are also hand inlaid with abalone crosses.  This guitar has every piece of detail necessary to truly make it a special piece.  This also has a clean original Martin hardshell case.

Since this guitar was sold to someone that wasn't a player it was never taken out and used.  This sat in the case in his house until he sold it to a friend of mine who sold it to me.  Also keep in mind this is a 27 year old guitar.  If this was new I have no doubt this would be a $7000 guitar today.  And even if someone tried to duplicate this they probably couldn't get the same quality of wood.

Condition

I mentioned this was almost never played.  The second owner did play it a bit around his house but never took it out.  There are some very light scratches in the pickguard which can only be seen at an angle in bright light.  In addition there is another very light surface scratch on the face of the headstock.  Other than that this is a near mint guitar.  Even with these surface scratches this is a near mint guitar.  This is absolutely gorgeous and very clean.  This has been set up at the shop and is an extraordinary sounding and playing guitar.  The original case is super clean as well.  Plus there is original paperwork such as the warranty info and sales receipt and custom order form.  This guitar is the definition of collector's item and I am thrilled to be able to offer this.
