1926 Gibson TB-3 Ball-bearing Banjo, serial 8207-9 in exceptional original condition, seemingly stored in a time capsule.
Update: After speaking with Joe Spann it is confirmed that the hide and bridge are the originals the banjo left the factory with. Super cool!
The price tag of $65 was inside the case, along with scraping in the resonator indicating a purchase date of March 20th, 1926. The Resonator still retains a faint chalk serial. It is possible that a couple of the original strings are still wound, with the exception of a Black Diamond replacement. The skin head and bridge are the originals from the factory. The resonator bolts may have been upgraded by the original purchaser from the hex models, still a mystery about the 4 mounting tabs but only 3 screws. (If you have info about this please contact me)
The neck shows very light signs of use, and only on the first few frets. The hardware is simply beautiful, and the resonator has never been refinished.
I bought this banjo with the intent of converting it to a 5-string, not knowing the condition. Once seeing it, I realized that this banjo, although a very basic and plentiful model, may have more value to someone in its original Tenor condition. I am not in a rush to sell, so serious inquiries only please!
