This is a beautiful Vega 5-string conversion, just completed. The pot is a lovely circa-1923 Fairbanks by Vega Whyte Laydie Style R with a 10 3/4" diameter which sports the original Jos B. Rogers calfskin head. All hardware on the banjo is original except for the Gotoh 4:1 planetary tuners (grained ivoroid buttons) and the Rickard no-knot tailpiece. The eastman reproduction neck is made of maple with an ebony fingerboard and center strip and cream binding with a very smooth satin nitrocellulose finish. The neck is mounted on the original dowel stick with the matching serial number to the rim. The fingerboard has been inlayed with MOP dot position markers in the classic Vega pattern.
Currently set up with medium strings and nice low action with a 5/8" Crowe spaced Sosebee bridge.
I'm asking two hundred dollars less than the street price of an Eastman Whyte Laydie for an instrument with an original Vega Whyte Laydie rim and high quality hardware throughout.
Feel free to message me with any questions or for a sound clip of the banjo.
