This is another tiny five string banjo - what I call "piccolele" as it is an original 1920's four string banjo ukulele.
It gets rebuilt from the ground up into a very nice looking and playing miniature five string banjo, nicely suited for clawhammer type playing.
This is an eight inch rim with calfskin head and heavy hardware and rolled brass tone ring. Overall length around 22.5 inches with a fourteen inch scale, bone pip and nut.
There is a thin but lovely gaboon ebony fingerboard which makes playing on the fretless surface a delight. Mother of pearl dots and star.
Fretless banjos allow you to control your intonation and also slide. This gives you better expression and enables you to play the simplest of oldtime tunes with variation. A slide can come into a note from below or above, or release at the end of the note duration from either direction as well. This gives the tune feeling.
With nice fitting new gig bag.
I have a few more of these little guys for sale at my website piccoloplace.org if your interested.
