A unique all-Vega 5-string conversion.
The 10 15/16" pot is a circa-1930 Little Wonder (a late serial number and tinted brown, which is unusual but original). The rim hardware is all original, including the two-point shoes which are a nice touch usually only found on higher models, but that started showing up more and more often on the lower ones in the 1930's when Vega's banjo production was slowing down. The nickel plating is in very good shape overall with a nice light and even patina.
The neck is an original Vega 5-string neck from a No. 2 Special which came to me orphaned and with a cracked heel. The heel has been repaired and touched up some to render it less conspicuous and the neck is solid (I've been playing it the last several weeks and it plays and holds tune very well). The head is a Jos Rogers Jr. calfskin. It also features a high quality Rickard no-knot tailpiece and Gotoh planetary tuners.
Playability is very good. Action is comfortable with 5/8" bridge currently installed. The tone is exactly what you'd expect from a Little Wonder, with great clarity. The neck has little dings here and there (see pictures -- my guess is someone used to rest it against a side table or coffee table), but they aren't deep and could probably be steamed out or filled if desired. They don't bother me so I left them alone.
I've priced this on par with what I see Eastman conversions going for in the view that the heel repair and wear to the neck are offset by it being an original USA-made Vega part contemporary with the pot.
