Intonation on small scaled Fretted instruments can be difficult. On a Fretless instrument one can get the exact notes much easier, as well as the wonderful slides(up and down) that define old time music.
I have around one hundred small banjos (less than 24 inches in length) that I am gradually thinning out. Some I will carve into Piccoleles, others into Piccolos, and the rest will be restored if anyone is interested.
