Vega Whyte Laydie Style "R" tenor converted to a 5 string open back. The 10-15/16 pot is serial number 59179 which makes its production year 1925. The original dowel was fitted to the new 5 string neck. All of the pot hardware is original except the tail piece which is a new no-knot and the arm rest which is a Smakula. The peg head tuners are vintage pancake tuners and the fifth string tuner is a Gotoh. All five buttons are ebony wood. The head is a Fibreskin and the bridge is a Snuffy Smith 11/16" making the action at the 12th fret 1/8" The inlay pattern, based on the early Fairbanks Whyte Laydie No 2 banjo, is hand cut inlayed and engraved. It has a 26" scale and plays easily with plenty of power and a great old time sound.
