Strom 5 String Banjo. Mid-late1960’s. 5 String. Double Eagle Model. In very good to excellent condition. Gold Plated.
Selling this to fund another Banjo project.
Very Rare bird here as these were made here in the US for only a few years.
Very high quality build. All walnut 5 piece back with beautiful Marquetry Eagle inlaid in back. Not a decal, hand cut and inlaid wood. Carved heel. All gold plated parts. Pearl inlay on neck, heel and head stock. Plays beautifully and is quite loud.
From what I have been told and a few archived threads here, these were made in Wisconsin in the 1960’s until Richelieu bought them out around 1969 or so. This is the top of the line that Strom made and the only one that I have seen with a carved heel. I have also been informed that this was the model that Roni Stoneman played on Hee Haw, so UTube that and see if you can see this model in action.
I recently had the binding on the neck redone. Tailpiece is a Prucha.
