This electric banjo (Béla Fleck plays a purple one on stage with the Flecktones) is no longer produced by Deering, but their web site once described them this way:
"The Crossfire Banjo has an actual working banjo head stretched over a brass tone-ring. It has two powerful, active, magnetic pick-ups under the head; one in the neck position and the other by the bridge and both powered by a single 9 volt battery. By a flick of the toggle switch, you can play the bridge pick-up or the near-the-neck pickup or both at the same time."
You can plug this Crossfire into any amplifier or run it directly into a PA system. It can be used with electronic effects and pedals (I sometimes play it through a phase shifter). Un-amplified it makes almost no noise at all. I originally purchased it to use as a practice instrument in my home.
I’m selling it because I’ve got my eye on a new instrument, and need to thin out the herd.
