Early 2009 SN 477
Maple rim stained black. Walnut neck with Cottonwood/Deep Hollow headstock shape. Unique abalone inlay. Balch calfskin head (~$45 value) installed. I will supply original plastic head on request no additional charge.
Walnut neck with a slight V-shape, very comfortable in the hand. Neck scoop. Peghedz tuners (hidden gears). Goose Acres style armrest. Please note photos were BEFORE the Balch head was installed.
25 1/2" scale length, nut width 1 5/16" . "Silver Bell" tone rim which Chuck Lee no longer offers as option on new builds. To my ear it has less low-mid frequencies than a Dobson and is considerably louder than my Chuck Lee Dobson. Does not have quite the dense harmonic content of a tubaphone, at least to my ear.
I purchased this banjo used ($2200) from The Music Emporium in 2016 and it has been played only in my home. Comes with a hard shell case also in very good to excellent condition.
I am reaching the "de-accumulation" phase in life. I used to chase Chuck Lee banjos with headstock inlays other than the moon motif. This is a great example of Chuck's craftsmanship and quality. This is hard to part with but I need to downsize. You can help... ;P
Keep in mind that FedEx/UPS charges private individuals exorbitant shipping rates based on "dimension weight". The last 4 instruments I shipped cost well over the $100 quoted here. Continental US keeps things simple in my experience. Check or money order will have to clear bank prior to shipping.
