This is a beautiful instrument in both appearance and tone. It appears all original except for the Remo renaissance head and the new gold plated Waverly two-band offset tuners. Engraved MOP palmate inlay on the headstock, as well as on the fretboard (some wear to the engraving on some of the fingerboard inlays, but several also still very clear). There is also an ebony back peghead overlay and long backstrap. Gold plating on the hooks, nuts, 'vegaphone' engraved clamshell tailpiece, 'Vega' engrved armrest, and four-piece flange. The bracket band tone ring are actually nickel plated, though they appear gold from most angles (and in the pictures) due to reflecting the flange. The plating is overall in good shape for its age, with the main exception being where it has come off the hooks (usually the first to go). The outer rim of the resonator is gold coloured pearloid.
The banjo has a great clear tone and plays very well. It features moderate wear in the form of occasional chips and dings but is structurally in very good shape as. The only alteration is that a previous owner drilled a hole for a 5th string peg on the side of the neck, which hasn't affected it structurally, and shouldn't be much work to fill and touch-up. Priced attractively as a result.
