A fine example. All original except head and bridge.
Looks to be late 30s as the hardware is in such good condition. Flange is pulling up near the neck only, the rest is straight. There is a slight but stable de-lamination in the rim which has been stable for years. Some slight wear and a few dings here and there—all pictured.
Sound and playability is fantastic. Great lightweight banjo. As Richie Dotson said in one of his videos, there are a lot of wood tone ring, light weight banjos around but none of them sound like an all original RB-00. Indeed, there is something special about this old wood that Gibson used.
This banjo is absolutely stage and studio ready. Also, it will be heard in a jam. In fact, I have considered a Fiberskyn or ren head on this due to it’s volume. I actually think a five star would likely serve it best but I’ll leave that to the new owner. Claw hammer and two finger also sound great on this banjo.
Original tuners hold very well.
Frets, which appear to be original, are in fantastic condition.
Neck is straight as an arrow and the action is fantastic with a 11/16th bridge.
RR spikes installed.
Will be shipped in a new tweed case.
I’d be looking for just about anything in a trade/partial trade with cash.
