This is a rare and original Bacon five string that was most likely custom ordered in 1929 (serial number 27715). The maple neck features a bound peghead with pearl script reading "Bacon Blue Ribbon". The neck is bound and the heel is elaborately carved to the 12th fret. The rim is fitted with a resonator with "tulip" cutouts in the flange. It is fitted with an unusual, but simple tonering. The rim and interior of the resonator are typical silver paint but the dowel stick has no Bacon stamp or serial number. Since most Blue Ribbons are from an earlier time period with much lower serial number, we might assume that this banjo was either put together at the factory or the neck was retro fitted in the 1920s with the newer rim. It is a perfect player. in VG+ condition
