This is a beautiful custom banjo (Serial #517) made by Lo Gordon of Cedar Mountain Banjos in Brevard, North Carolina. This is a custom S3 model with "Man in the Moon" inlays on the peghead and similar on the frailing scoop with a shooting star added . The position markers on the fretboard are stars rather than circles or diamonds. All these inlays make this banjo out of this world! (Sorry)
The S3 banjo model compares to the L3 model today as best I can tell. I bought this banjo new in 2012 from Cedar Mountain. It has a nice plunky sound and I have added a moon bridge (which also seems appropriate for this banjo).
The neck is made of curly maple, it has a cherry wood tone ring and the the head is 11". It also has a solid brass tone ring which is what came with the banjo. So you can change it to suit your own personal preference. The rim is rosewood block wood construction. It has a factory armrest and all the tuners are geared. The case is a plush TKL which was purchased with the banjo. If you look close at the pictures you can see a thin red veneer along the neck and rim - a very nice touch.
I'm selling this banjo because I have grown to love my 12" head banjo and play it pretty much exclusively. I'd call this banjo mint but I'd rather say excellent.
Please contact me through Banjo Hangout with your phone number and I can get with you to discuss any questions you may have. Thanks, Andy
