Rare Kel Kroydon KK46-11 with brass hoop tone ring. I kept an eye out for years before finding this banjo. They don’t come up on the used market very often and are nearly $4000 new. I am the second owner of this fine custom banjo. I have all of the original paperwork. Comes with a fine case. Leather strap in photos is not included.
Custom features include:
Ebony fingerboard with pearl inlay
Ebony peghead overlay
Bill Sullivan Factory Floor Rim
Factory installed Shubb fifth string capo
This banjo is perfect for old-time clawhammer and up-picking styles. (Wade Ward played a version of this banjo and Brad Leftwich currently plays one as his main banjo.) I love it for bluegrass too. It’s loud and set up to have a fairly dry tone with fewer overtones than a Mastertone banjo. Earl’s earliest recordings were on a style 11.
Condition is very good. There are some capo marks from the original owner and a couple of tiny nicks here and there, but overall it’s in great shape.
I hate to see this banjo go, but I have a custom Romero in deck and need to free up some banjo funds.
Please reach out with questions. This rare bird is a wonderful banjo.
