Alfred A. Farland began building banjos in New York City in 1890. His highly prized instruments are a superb example of turn-of-the-century artistry.
The exquisite appointments of this fine example include inlays of mother-of-pearl, abalone, and snail shell in Victorian style designs on the fret board and both the front and back of the peg head.
The neck itself features a hand select birds-eye maple which matches the wood rim. Accents are provided by ebonized birch which matches the finger board.
One unique feature, favored by a lot of players, is the maple resonator, attached to the perch pole with a single screw. This allows the resonator to be detached swiftly to produce an entirely different tone to that which comes forth when the resonator is in place.
The instrument is in pristine condition, with no visible fret wear, calf skin head, and corrosion free hardware.
The next owner will have to decide between playing it constantly or setting aside some tome to just sit and admire this true work of art. stk#VGB5024
