Beautiful blonde Maple banjo. Bookmatched figure Maple resonator with complex concentric purfling rings in three lines showing on back. Cream outer bindings along fingerboard, top and back edge of resonator, and heelcap. Rosewood stringer down center of neck. Neck is three-piece Maple. Ebony peghead overlay with Gold Star logo at top and Wreath Pattern inlay in face. Flat ebony fingerboard with Wreath Pattern inlay. Black “Mastertone block” at 21st fret. 40-hole archtop tonering. Nickel hardware. Tuners have matching pearloid buttons.
People talk about these early Saga archtops as having very good sound. This banjo is no exception, with much more bottom end and more presence than you would expect in an archtop banjo.
Great sound and playability.
Vintage Gold Star Archtop from the early 80's, Style 12 G W Serial 800107 made by Saga Instruments of San Francisco. This maple banjo is plunky and strong sounding.Model 12 (archtop, maple, natural finish, rosewood stripe in laminated neck) I bought it in NYC Greenwich Village at Matt Umanov Guitar Shop on Bleeker. Comes with original hardshell case. Blue case. Railroad spikes capos on 7th, 9th, and 10th frets. There was a crack pro repaired long ago in the heel of the neck, see photo. I just don't play anymore and am looking to liquidate my collection of instruments. One owner.
. Banjo is in California. Not sure what the shipping costs, but it has to be wrapped and boxed properly. quite Only real shipping costs will be added, if you pay the 150 and it turns out to be less, I will refund the difference. By the way, I have had some inquiries about who did the heel crack repair.
