I have had several of these old conversions and they've all been fantastic. This one is no exception. This banjo F.O.N. 8718-4 dates to 1927 and was originally a bracket and shoe type with a brass hoop. This banjo has now been fitted with Gibson hardware and a Jerry Sloan tone ring. The tailpiece is a punched prewar Grover and it has a Pre-EPA Remo head. I'm told by the previous owner that the mahogany neck is by Frank Neat and it has Waverly V-2 tuners. I had Robin Smith install front binding on the resonator and it looks great. The back of the reso shows numerous small scratches typical for 90 years old!...but hard to see in the pictures. This banjo sounds tremendous and has 5th string spikes installed and ships in a hard case with green interior.
I hope to get a video up ASAP if it doesn't sell first. Don't hesitate to ask questions.
