2007 mahogany Prucha Basic Deluxe. I bought this new from Greg Boyd in 2007. It was my last in a series of progressively better banjos. Never needed another after I bought this one. In the last few years I've played less and less, to the point where I'm not exactly giving up, but it doesn't make sense to have this sitting around anymore.

So:

Overall good condition. Issues include:

A nick in the peghead, and a couple buckle dents in the resonator. The back of the neck, just below the nut has a small indent. There is some tarnish on the hardware, mostly the arm rest. The nickel finish has been scraped off one of the resonator screws, where the strap rubbed. There is some fret wear on the first few frets. I captured all this as best I could with the photos. Over the years, about once every 6 months, I've lightly taken some 000 steel wool to the neck to keep it feeling more satin. I figured it would eventually become a speed neck, but it still has a long way to go before it's that far along.

I've played this banjo a lot. It's been taken care of, but definitely used; played with friends, taken on trips, played in bands. Not abused, but I've definitely gotten it out and played it. My take on the "wear and tear" has always been that really old, really well played, well taken care of banjos have a really cool look. It's why Yates made the "distressed" banjo. I figured with some basic care, but otherwise just playing it, it would eventually take on a really cool, old, used look with personality. Thus the tarnish.

It will look better with a new head and a cleaning. I've always heard that will help it to sell, but...I don't want to mess with it. It sounds good, it's settled in, and I'd hate to go and throw it all out of whack for whoever buys it. If you want to deep clean it and put on a new head, great. I'll leave that decision to you, rather than make it for you.

The banjo sounds great, plays great. It's a Prucha.

Anyone with a good eye will see that it has the masterclone style pot.
Mahogany neck and resonator.
Rosewood, flat fretboard.
Fishman Rare Earth pickup.
Guardian Case that came with it.
Leather strap.

It's served me really well, and honestly it's hard to believe that over 10 years, I never craved "upgrading" to a better banjo. I've had some feelings of wanting variety here and there, but I've never once felt that I needed anything better, including playing in bands and recording. This is as good a banjo as you'll ever need.

Let me know if you have any questions.

You can hear me playing it from my profile, or the link below under "more info URL". The song title is Flang. Use something better than built-in computer speakers so you hear the BASS. :).
