The Flatiron company was bought out in the late 80's by Gibson. Flatiron was mostly producing mandolins but they had a banjo line as well. This Flatiron Montana Rose was made in 1988. Gibson discontinued the banjo production in 1991 and by 1993 they were all gone.
This Montana Rose is mahogany and in A++ condition with minimal fret wear. All original pot complete with the "Flatiron" Presto tailpiece and "Flatiron" armrest. These banjos had a brass ring on top of the rim. The previous owner installed a brass hoop on the inside of the existing ring for more volume and tone. This banjo is obviously lighter weight at just over 9 pounds. 5th string spikes are installed and it ships in a Stelling case that is well worn. Feel free to ask for more pictures or as questions.
