This 2006 Sweetgrass was built by Ome to display at the January 2007 NAMM show in Anaheim, CA. It was the only 2006 Sweetgrass with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and peghead.
Ome decided not to attend the NAMM show and they donated this banjo to the Ossipee Valley Bluegrass Association (Cornish, Maine) to be used as First Prize at the 2007 New England Banjo Championships in July 2007. When a legendary player in Maine passed away, the Association decided to use the banjo to honor him and raise funds for the family he left behind. The banjo was taken to every bluegrass festival in New England during Summer 2007 where raffle tickets were sold, a winning ticket to be drawn in September. During that "tour", the banjo was played by greats like Jens Kruger, J. D. Crowe, and others at various festivals. At the final festival the winning raffle ticket was drawn, but the winner was not a player so the festival purchased the banjo back from him, sold it on the open market, and added those funds to the funds raised by the raffle ticket sales to be given to the honoree's family. I purchased the banjo from the Ossipee Valley Bluegrass Association in March 2008 when it was put up for sale. I have been the only owner since.
This banjo has been cased (not played) since March 2008 in a climate-controlled, non-smoking home and is in excellent condition. It's main playing time was during the festival tour when it was demonstrated to encourage raffle ticket sales.
The rim and body hardware have small amounts of tarnish. I have removed as much as I can without taking the banjo apart. But there are no other blemishes. Beautiful maple back and neck, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and peghead. When I bought it, I had it checked out by Don Zepp who installed and set up a Snuffy Smith bridge. Otherwise, it is all original. Comes with the original Ome/TKL case, also in near-like-new condition. Sweetgrass specifications can be reviewed on the Ome website. (I will furnish this banjo's serial number if desired to get exact specifics from Ome on this 2006 build.)
I can forward the lengthy history of the banjo as provided to me by the President of the Ossipee Valley Bluegrass Association when I purchased the banjo. (MS Word doc forwarded to your email.)
