Here we have the incredibly rare and wonderful Paramount Style B Melody Banjo with its 15 1/4” scale neck that meets the body half-way between the 12th and 13th fret. Created so that mandolin players could play parts previously played on banjo, and vise versa. This 90 year old instrument is in fine condition featuring a slim mahogany 5-piece laminated neck with demi-herringbone under its Brazilian rosewood fret board. As with most Paramount instruments, the fret board is tastefully inlaid with intricate mother-of-pearl position markers. The headstock has the inlaid mother-of-pearl Paramount logo, underneath which is inlaid “Wm. L. Lange” and “Style B”. All of the metal parts are shiny and without oxidation, including the original “improved” Paramount quick release tailpiece, armrest and Page tuners. The action is extremely playable, and the tone of this unique instrument is as one would expect from a Paramount: crisp, clean and with plenty of volume.
This melody banjo is in very fine condition throughout with the normal amount of scratches one would expect from a 90 year old well cared for instrument. Its only fault is a 3/4” piece of binding missing off the back of the resonator.
Here’s an opportunity to own an instrument that plays well, sounds terrific and is a welcome ultra-rare addition to your banjo collection.
