One thing that was always true of Gibson in the early 20th Century, they supported both professional and amateur music makers. From the many mandolin ensembles — “Every One A Gibsonite” — to making products that fit the budget of players at every level.
This rarely seen PB-Junior is an example of one of those products. Originally aimed at the advanced student or “hobby” musician, the instrument offered the same 26” scale as the professional models, with a 1/2” thick rim that was 10 1/2” in diameter. Its original Champion friction tuners hold tight without slippage.
This banjo is in excellent condition, with low, playable action, a straight neck and only a little minor scarring here and there to remind you that it’s a vintage instrument. The peg head is without adornment, but check out the script Gibson inside the rim. The tone is wonderful, with enough of the old-timey sound that traditional country pickers, like Uncle Dave Macon, really appreciated. A bevy of five string players would love to put a five string neck on this rim and play some old time tunes.
