1949 Gibson RB-100. Well, ladies and gentleman, we've got a weird one. In the classic tradition of Gibson making quality resonator banjos, and their owners performing whatever bizarre experiments on them they see fit, this banjo has more than a couple quirks. First, and most notably, is the peghead, still outfitted with the original Kluson tuners and keystone knobs, which have a sort of shrunken head quality to them. For added aerodynamics, there are also extra holes in the peghead, where once lived a set of Scruggs cam tuners. Peghead was also broken and reglued, not to any great aesthetic effect, but the repair is solid. And, oh yeah, the neck is a little rough all finish has been stripped off. Bright side of all this madness is the archtop rim with tone hoop, 5-Star frosted head, modern Presto tailpiece, and the wonderful original resonator with sunburst finish. And good god is it fun to play. We really hope it finds the home it deserves, but please, no more experiments. This test subject is retired. With 1970's hard case, $950.
