Here's a bit of a "rare bird". A 1928 Gibson TB-5 conversion F.O.N. 9029-29. These banjos were introduced in 1925 as the "Cadillac" banjo from Gibson and were replaced with the Style 6 around 1929. The neck was made by well known luthier Randy Wood. This walnut neck has been with the banjo for a long time and is a perfect match in every way and features the hand cut Style 5 wreath inlay. 5th string spikes at 7,9,10, and 12. The fret wear is minimal and the profile is excellent.
The pot still remains original and uncut with the 40-hole A.T. ring with the exception of a couple newer hooks. Notably this banjo has a 5-string tension hoop and a one-piece armrest. There are bumps, and nicks and some nice vintage gold patina on this nearly 90 YEAR OLD banjo. The tuners are 5-star and I decided to leave the head on just in case someone would rather have it that way. If the buyer would like different tuners or a new head installed, we can talk about that.
