This is a 1928 Gibson style 6 checkerboard with low-profile flathead tone ring. Factory order number 9116-2. The banjo originally came from the factory as a 4-string. The matching neck was made in 1976 by master luthier David Nichols of Custom Pearl Inlay. With the exception of the neck and Waverly tuners, all parts are original except for the tailpiece which is a modern period-correct Prucha reproduction. Two of the original hooks that had broken have been replaced by matching prewar hooks (original hooks included). Gold plated and engraved in the Bella Voce pattern. Two-piece flange and 3/4 inch rim. Newer 6-latch Superior hard shell case. Outstanding prewar sound. The banjo may heard on this Youtube video clip:
